Meet The Artist

Who Am I? A Personal Bio

Javon Angela is a 22-year-old self-taught traditional artist whose work celebrates spiritual growth , culture representation, and conscious creation. Now based in Nashville, TN, her artistic journey has been shaped by a series of transformative life experiences and a deep passion for creating meaningful art.

"I enjoy re-creating portraits in my own watered down style. Experimenting with Oil and Gouache paint helped me develop my smooth, velvety texture in my art style. Art to me is not how I communicate with the viewers but the impression it leaves on viewers eyes."

She's been self taught from the age of 2. Her parents always nurtured this passion by ensuring she always had the tools she needed, encouraging her to explore and express her imagination. "When I lived in the desert it forced me to find a creative outlet at a young age. Experiencing that kind of Isolation helped my Art develop."

After purchasing her first art book at the age of 8 from a local book fair with tutorials on how to draw cars, animals, plants, etc. She started to become super fascinated by the world around her.

"Literally anything in this world can be drawn just by breaking the subject down into shapes."

At 17, Javon moved to Irvine, CA, to continue her education and pursue greater opportunities for artistic growth. While living in Irvine, she frequently traveled to Los Angeles, immersing herself in the city’s vibrant art scene and creative energy. As far as any education, she enrolled in high school art courses in 2016 before moving and later participated in a college program at the Art Center in California in 2018. These experiences refined her technical skills and broadened her creative horizons.

In 2020, amidst a period of global uncertainty, Javon embraced a profound transformation as an artist. She used the term “Conscious Creator” to describe her approach to art, which became her guiding philosophy and personal saying. For Javon, being a conscious creator means crafting art with intention and purpose, addressing themes of identity, representation, and empowerment.

A passion for Art, creating something from nothing began. What started out as a hobby became second nature. She often expresses her love for nature and spirituality through her art with unique proportions and colours.
Her rendering capabilities are captivating to watch in her Art process videos and
her choice of shapes and values are remarkable.

FAQ

What medium do you use? How do you blend it so smoothly?

The main medium I use is liquitex Acrylic Paint. I love Acrylics because it is a nice balance between oils and watercolors. It has a relatively fast drying time, yet you can also layer it. I get smooth transitions between layers by using a lot of water to mix my paint. I let each layer dry before adding a light glaze. I’ve been doing this for about 5 years now, so it comes naturally.

How long have you been painting?

I’ve been painting since I could walk! I only started taking it seriously about 5 years ago or so (in 2020.) My parents always made sure I had the resources to create and they have always been super supportive. I am a self-taught artist, meaning, I never took Art classes. I just watched a TON of videos and learned from observing other artists. I am now a full time self-employed Artist.
